DUBLIN, Dec 7 (Reuters) - An Irish magazine apologized to Tiger Woods's wife Elin Nordegren Woods on Friday and agreed to pay the former model "substantial" damages after it published fake nude pictures during the 2006 Ryder Cup at the K Club.

"The false and deeply offensive article in The Dubliner magazine, with the accompanying photograph of another woman wrongly claimed to be me, caused great personal distress to me and my family," Nordegren Woods said in a statement.

She did not disclose the scale of damages received in settlement of a libel action brought in November 2006 but a source who was in the court room said the magazine had agreed to pay 125,000 euros ($182,000) over two years.

If The Dubliner defaults on payment it will become liable for a further 125,000 euros plus costs, the source said.

Nordegren Woods said the money would be donated to cancer support charities in memory of Heather Clarke, the late wife of British golfer Darren Clarke.

The statement from Nordegren said Trevor White, publisher of The Dubliner, had apologised unreservedly for the article.

"The story was cheap, tasteless and deliberately offensive," it quoted White as saying in the magazine's apology.

White described the article, entitled "Ryder Cup Filth For Dublin?", as utterly and comprehensively false, profoundly hurtful and shameful.

"The article was accompanied by a nude photograph of a woman falsely identified as being Elin Woods and the article falsely stated other such photographs were to be found on Internet porn sites," he said.

"There are no such photographs of Ms. Nordegren Woods on Internet sites or elsewhere. Ms. Nordegren Woods has never posed, or been photographed, nude."

The magazine also apologized for its initial defense that the article was intended as a satirical parody, saying instead that it was a "cheap, vulgar lie which was unforgivably insulting to Ms. Nordegren Woods". (Editing by Tony Jimenez)

Your Soldier SGT Jill Stevens- Miss America?

Miss Utah brings message to commission: Be prepared
By Cathy McKitrick The Salt Lake Tribune
Article Last Updated: 12/06/2007 12:07:25 PM MST

Jill Stevens wowed Davis County Commissioners this week as she dropped by to tout her new dream: getting Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training into every high school in America. Stevens, the reigning Miss Utah, is featured on the Web site www.teencert.org. She recently attended a Teen CERT Train the Trainer session in Provo, hosted by Eastern Michigan University. Stevens, 24, has earned several titles. She's a sergeant in the Utah National Guard, a registered nurse and a veteran marathon runner. And in January, she competes in Las Vegas to wear the Miss America crown. "I want to bring substance to the title," Stevens, a graduate of Davis High School, told commissioners. "These girls really do make a difference." Her platform? Emergency preparedness. And she's convinced that teens are the best resource to tap. "I want to get Teen CERT in every high school in Utah, then across the nation," said Stevens, who served a tour of duty in Afghanistan. "Preparing the youth is how to prepare the nation." The commission applauded her efforts. "Thank you for serving the county, state and country," said Commissioner Alan Hansen. "You'll hear our cheers for you come January." "It's just another sign that Davis County is the center of the universe," Hansen added.

Hewitt Strikes Back Over Bikini Shots

NEW YORK (AP) — An angry Jennifer Love Hewitt is defending her curves after photos of her in a bikini were ridiculed on the Internet. "I've sat by in silence for a long time now about the way women's bodies are constantly scrutinized," the 28-year-old actress writes on her Web site.

"To set the record straight, I'm not upset for me, but for all the girls out there that are struggling with their body image."

The photos show Hewitt, with a bit of cellulite, on a Hawaii beach with her new fiance, Scottish actor Ross McCall.

Several sites posted the shots, along with some less-than-complimentary comments. TMZ.com, for example, said, "We know what you ate this summer, Love — everything!"

"A size 2 is not fat! Nor will it ever be," Hewitt responded in a post Thursday. "And being a size 0 doesn't make you beautiful."

"What I should be doing is celebrating some of the best days of my life and my engagement to the man of my dreams, instead of having to deal with photographers taking invasive pictures from bad angles," says the star of TV's "Ghost Whisperer" and the film "I Know What You Did Last Summer."

"To all girls with butts, boobs, hips and a waist," she wrote, "put on a bikini — put it on and stay strong."

Jokes keep coming from Joe Piscopo

BY LARRY MUHAMMAD GANNETT NEWS SERVICE

Ask him if his age is 56 and comedian Joe Piscopo jokes, "That depends. If you see me with a younger woman, shave at least 10 years off."
Twice divorced, Piscopo's a single father of three young children aged 8, 4 and 2; and a 28-year-old son pursuing an acting career in New York.
"That's what I do best," says the former "SNL" slum who stays busy with acting and charity work. "I live for the kids."
We caught up with him while he was in town emceeing a sold-out Louisville Convention & Visitors Bureau soiree for sports-industry honchos. While here he sang Frank Sinatra standards cabaret style accompanied by the University of Louisville Jazz Ensemble II.
Most people remember Piscopo from "Saturday Night Live," on which he was the standout skit player who introduced America to Doug Whiner and The Sports Guy, among other signature Jersey characters, and did dead-on impressions of Jimmy Carter, Andy Rooney and Sinatra.
"I still bring in the impressions so everybody's happy," Piscopo says. "But when we lay into the music, with a great band, that's really a thrill for me, and it all came from 'Saturday Night Live.' "
He left the show in 1985, but unlike Eddie Murphy, Adam Sandler and other Saturday Night vets who went on to movie stardom, Piscopo saw his Hollywood moment dissolve after roles opposite Danny DeVito in "Wise Guys" and Michael Keaton in "Johnny Dangerously."
He's done three HBO specials, worked Las Vegas and standup comedy clubs, played Vinnie Fontaine in "Grease!"on Broadway, and guest-starred on "Law & Order" and other TV shows.
He devotes lots of private time and money to worthy causes, especially those benefiting children, prompted, he says, by memories of his own discipline problems growing up. Perhaps most important is Jersey Joe's Gyms, a Newark program involving police and Boys & Girls Clubs in mentoring underprivileged teens. There's also Positive Impact Foundation, which uses entertainment and education in a ground-breaking TV series to reinforce positive behavior in at-risk youth.
"I look into the eyes of those children," he says, "a lot of them forgotten about, and I think they are our responsibility, not just as God's children but because we're the greatest country in the world. And generally I try to highlight small, grass-roots organizations not helped by major grants and politicians. And if I hadn't been a bad kid, I would never have seen the light, and know that there but for the grace of God, go I."
Last year he started Avellino Productions, a New Jersey company that puts out televisions specials and sitcoms and is developing a feature film, "Joey Benefit," a title that suggests a documentary about his charity work.
"My director tells me it's not, but it's awful close," he says. "My friends call me Joey Benefit. You got a charity, I got a tuxedo. I come early and stay late."
Piscopo also has an extended date at the Las Vegas Hilton and tours the country with a band, but brings it home every week to New Jersey, where he's played the Sands Hotel and Casino, Resorts Atlantic City and other venues.
